American Social Media Personality Penalized Following Mass Electric Bike Gathering on Sydney Harbour Bridge

New South Wales police have issued a fine against an US-based online influencer and handed out two traffic infringement notices for alleged negligent driving following a large group of e-bike riders converged on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak-hour traffic on a weekday.

The Event: An Illegal Gathering

A group of approximately 40 people operating e-bikes and motorcycles travelled along the primary roadway of the bridge, where cycling is prohibited. The riders then turned around and rode through the city’s CBD and Haymarket.

"This had a risk of people to be injured and killed," remarked NSW police assistant commissioner the officer on Wednesday.

Police indicated they did not immediately pursue the riders due to safety concerns but rather found the group at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair near the city gardens, where they dispersed.

Fines Imposed for Influencer

On Saturday, police stated they had issued the American online personality known as the influencer, 26, with two traffic infringement notices for careless operation (not involving death or prior injury), with a fine of over five hundred dollars and penalty points per notice, in relation to the bridge incident. They added that inquiries were continuing.

The influencer is said to have over 3.4m followers on YouTube and more than 1.2m on the social media app.

Influencer's Comments

The content creator spoke with a major newspaper recently after the incident gained traction on news sites and social media, stating he regretted giving "the biking community" a bad reputation.

"I’ll probably take responsibility. That was one of the safest gatherings I have witnessed," he said. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to abide by the laws and norms of the city. So when I decided to do a meet and greet it was not meant to include a group ride, it was just to say hi near the bridge."

"I’m unfamiliar with the city, I am to blame we ended up on the bridge and I had two choices: either the group completes the entirety of the bridge and turns around, which is a crime. Or we reverse, essentially, before we’re on the bridge. And I made the decision at the time to go back."

Broader Context on Electric Bike Rules

The increase of electric bicycles on streets across the country has prompted growing calls for regulation. The federal health minister, the minister, commented that non-compliant electric bikes were a "complete hazard on the road."

"Kids have done stupid things on bikes since the invention of the early bicycle [but] the injuries that are coming into our hospital emergency departments are absolutely devastating," he stated. "We’ve got to make sure we stop these things entering the country [and] police are given the authority to crack down, to confiscate them, to destroy them, to destroy them."

The state reported 226 injuries associated with electric bikes in the previous year. However, in the first seven months of 2025, that figure jumped to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four fatalities.
